Yesterday was my birthday and Team SCAT took me on a mini surf trip. Trestles!!
We got off to a late start and I was worried that the wind and tide was gonna be against us. I had taken a look at the HB Pier and it was looking pretty bad (2-3 occ 4ft and already blown out), so I had low expectations. But I am always willing to go for the ride and the walk, even if it doesn't pan out.

There was some construction going on at the train track. I think they were reinforcing the old wooden trestles. But we were still able to pass by, as long as we avoided the CAT and the workers who were looking longingly at the surf.
And then we saw why...
Uppers was a little sectioned and closed out. Lowers was super packed. We looked at Cottons; there was a perfect peak with rights and lefts coming off of it. I WANTED THAT LEFT!!! So we walked down the beach, past President Nixon's beach house, past the the guy with the speedos.
It was amazing that although Huntington was only breaking 2-4, Cottons was really going off! The average waves were 4-6 and the occasional larger 'clean up' sets were 8-10. (I wasn't sure if it was really that big until I read the report that called it "double overhead") There definitely were some mackers steaming thru!! The double overhead ones were too big and came from too far outside for anyone to get and we all got munched! But it was worth it, cuz the first few in the set were so good.
We all had a great session! For me, the best part of the day was the perfect, big ass lefts and no wipe outs! Plus, did I mention that it was totally glassy and the water was warm? What a great birthday present.
On the way home, the guys took me to my favorite taco stand. It was a epic day of surf and a perfect birthday trip!
