The US Open is here!!
The south side of the pier looks like an outdoor mall. I can't even see the waves from the parking lot!
Believe it or not, it has taken the crews three weeks to build US Open land. They keep the materials gated on the north side sand and truck em over to the south side as needed. There are guys with tool belts, guys on walkie talkies, and scary tractors running all around. It's been quite a scene.
This weekend will be crazy; with tourists, inlanders, wanna be's and could've been's... Next weekend - during finals - will be even worse!! I'm thinking it's good time to get out of town. So between June 30th and July 7th my friends and I are gonna hafta find a new place to surf!
If you wanna watch the surfing, but don't wanna deal with the crowds/or can't make it to the beach... You can watch live feed daily at www.usopenofsurfing.com.
The good news is that a new southern hemi swell is filling in. The bad new is that it is looking a bit walled.
Hopefully it will shape up in the next couple days ;)
Teri
P.S. I ran into some of the competitors on the South Side today. Mike Parsons seemed really cool. Kolohe Andino; not so much. I would of gotten a pic, but they were too busy watching surf videos of themselves...
